Total waste of money. Do not buy.

The map is very low quality and not effective for achieving the basic objective of navigation.
I would not even keep the app if it was free, but to charge for it is inappropriate.
In addition, the support link that iTunes has for this company goes to a bogus website.

4/5 stars

Wonderful basics, but needs some work.

Overall it's a really good program for what I want. But it has its pros and cons.

It zooms in about 10 times closer than any other map application including Google. That means I can easily read the street names and follow along when I hold the map in my hand at waist level as I walk around. This is a major feature over other apps.

The 3D feature is very cool. I can see buildings and streets come up as I walk and scroll the map. Another major plus.

Unlike for the previous user, it loads and zooms really fast on my iPod Touch 3G.

I was impressed with the local spots it knew. Of course on a street that had about 20 restaurants it only had 2. But that at least helped me orient myself on the map as I passed those places.

It doesn't take up much space. Some iPhone offline map apps take over a GB to load the same area. Just crazy, as my Garmin GPS can contain the entire United States in less space than that.

I could enter the name of a street and it would show me.

It has no instructions.

Very limited features. Basically it displays an overhead view, a North up view, and a 3D view, plus the ability to enter street names.

The 3D view is great, but pretty hard to control. It's difficult to keep the street you're on centered. They need a way to let you slide and center streets so they don't keep on drifting off the edge of the screen as you scroll along.

It would be great if they had an option to let you do that with the overhead view, to keep the street stretching directly ahead of you as you turned onto that street.

It is only available for a few areas.

You can't put in addresses, or it seems, the name of the street and city. You just enter a street, and it shows you one in one city, then you click NEXT and it shows you a street with the same name in another city. You keep doing that until you recognize the street, which is unlikely if you're new to the area.

It doesn't let you enter intersections. That would help in specifying a location.

It doesn't do any routing. This would be a nice extra. But other offline maps don't do this either.

It doesn't let you drop pins to mark and name spots, such as where you left your car, restaurants you want to return to, etc.

The website greymead.com seems to be gone. I'd love to be able to contact them to see when new versions are coming, offer comments, etc, but click the CityMap Support link takes me to a dead web page.
